Solo travel can be equally empowering and terrifying. You’re basically saying: Yes, I will haul my overpacked suitcase, talk to strangers in broken phrases, and eat carbs unapologetically across an entire continent, alone. But if you’re going to do it, Europe is your stage. And these 9 cities? They make solo adventuring feel less Eat, Pray, Cry and more Eat, Pray, Oh Dang This Is Glorious.
Here’s where I’ve felt most safe, most seen, and most sated without needing a buddy system or a boyfriend.

Reykjavik, Iceland
The solo traveler’s daydream. Safe, peaceful, and otherworldly. Soak in the Blue Lagoon, hike lava fields, or just walk around the charming city where crime basically doesn’t exist. You won’t blend in (unless you’re also blonde and wearing North Face from head-to-toe), but you’ll feel welcomed. Bonus: Icelanders speak perfect English, and the airport has better skincare than Sephora.

London, England
London’s like that cool cousin who’s always jet-lagged but still miraculously put together. No language barrier, ultra-efficient Tube system, and enough historic landmarks and cozy pubs to keep your itinerary full and your pints flowing. Plus, if you accidentally cry in public, no one cares–it’s London–we’ve all done it.

Rome, Italy
If you haven’t eaten cacio e pepe solo in Rome with a glass of wine and a view of some ancient column, what are you doing? Italy is the #1 dream vacation spot for most Americans and for good reason. Rome is vibrant, chaotic, deeply romantic, and, honestly… it doesn’t care if you’re by yourself. Just remember: Rome wasn’t explored in a day, and you shouldn’t try to either.

Berlin, Germany
Berlin is like your artsy friend who lives in a warehouse, DJs on the side, and is shockingly organized. English is widely spoken, the creative energy is palpable, and the city is teeming with solo expats and stylish people of all ages. From coffee shops to techno bunkers, you’ll never be bored (or judged for sitting alone).

Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Charming canals, friendly locals, and an abundance of bikes and baked goods. What more could a solo traveler want? Amsterdam is effortlessly cool without being intimidating. You’ll feel safe, stimulated, and surrounded by English-speaking folks who know how to make a damn good stroopwafel the size of your face.

Stockholm, Sweden
Impossibly stylish and full of friendly Swedes, Stockholm is a solo traveler’s Scandi dream. Clean, efficient, and walkable–even the public restrooms are photogenic! Get lost in Gamla Stan or hop on a ferry and pretend you’re in a Nordic rom-com. Everyone speaks English and everything smells like eucalyptus.

Dublin, Ireland
The Irish are obscenely friendly. Like, they’ll offer you directions, a beer, and possibly a dinner invite all in the same breath. Dublin is cozy, compact, and rich in culture. The weather might be moody, but the vibes never are. Grab a Guinness and let the locals welcome you like you’re a long-lost cousin.

Zurich, Switzerland
If luxury had a passport, it would be Swiss. Zurich may not be cheap, but it’s ridiculously livable, clean, and breathtaking. Trains run like clockwork, chocolate flows freely, and you’ll feel like a very sophisticated version of yourself just by being there. It’s ideal for introverts who like peace, lakes, and financial stability.

Kraków, Poland
Kraków is Eastern Europe’s underrated solo gem. It’s affordable, safe, and packed with medieval charm and youthful energy (thanks to all the students). English is gaining ground fast, and the food? Criminally comforting. Think pierogi, not panic. You’ll leave with stories and maybe a few vodka-fueled secrets.
Traveling solo is a flex. It’s choosing yourself, your rhythm, your desires without compromise.
These European cities…they’ll have your back, pour your wine, and help you find parts of yourself you didn’t know were missing. Go ahead, romanticize your life. You’ve got this.
